The first week of January always sparks some of the biggest changes to the game, and 2025 did not disappoint.

Hideki Matsuyama won The Sentry yesterday at a whopping 35 under par and set the record for lowest score to par in a PGA Tour event. This win sends him up one spot in the Official World Golf Ranking to 5th in the world and an early lead in the 2025 FedEx cup.

Callaway introduced their new Elyte Driver for 2025, featuring a new aerodynamically designed Thermoforged Carbon Crown for more clubbed speed as well as the AI 10x Face for more ball speed across the face. They’re claiming to be up to 8 yards longer, which will have to be seen to be believed.
Max Home signed a multi-year deal with Cobra Golf for his clubs, Puma Golf for footwear, & LuluLemon for apparel. He’ll be the only Cobra signee to have guaranteed starts in the signature events on the PGA Tour in 2025 and will be Lulu’s second golf ambassador alongside Min Woo Lee.
Titleist unveiled its new GT280 mini driver, which is going through the tour validation stage at The Sentry this week and getting a ton of buzz among the golf community. It’ll come in at 280 CC making it the smallest mini-driver on the market when it releases.
Two of the biggest professional trash talkers in the game went head to head on the Bryan Bros & HyFlyers YouTube channels. If Phil loses, he joins Wesley Bryans golf club in South Carolina. If Wesley doesn’t prevail, he stands outside Augusta National with a sign that says “I lost to Phil” during Masters week.
Jersey Jerry will not be the first to make a hole-in-one at the new TGL venue after a nearly 10-hour stream and 1000 shots hit left his hands too blistered to grip a golf club.
Lexi Thompson got engaged to her long-term boyfriend, Max Provost, on New Years Day. The now-retired professional golfer posted a photo of her engagement in Whistler, British Columbia.
Micah Morris Leaving Taylormade Golf?
Rumors that Micah Morris is leaving Taylormade are surfacing as the content creator removed the mention of being a Taylormade athlete from his Instagram bio this week. This could mark a move to another big golf brand or be the start of a new path for Micah on YouTube.

As the new year enfolders, the golf world is ready to deliver plenty of surprises to keep us engaged. While this might be one of the most important times for the game, it’s not all downhill from here. We’re just getting started.
